Marlene Dietrich question?

So I really liked this movie, also, I have seen marlene is a couple of other movies, what I don't understand is her appeal. She sounds like a man and never hardly smiles, I hold nothing agaisnt her acting talents, I guess I just don't understand her sex appeal. Can anyone explain it to me?

I kind of agree with you. Very brave. I had thought that before too. I found her good (not great) looking in this movie, and I particularly liked her exotic voice and attitude/style.

Because MD symbolizes a WOMAN and her many facets. Back in days of old, women were viewed as 'the other' and certain movie actresses symbolized some of the mystery of life (not all, of course, but this is not any ordinary woman!). In more recent times women are more 'equal' to men and no longer on the pedestal. Now you get movies full of emaciated creatures with inflated lips and boobs just being one of the boys, or in brainless rom-coms. Like Megan Fox, Angelina Jolie, any of a vast horde of starlets - the Kates, the Jennifers. MD was not a frivolous scatterbrained bimbo, why should she be yukking it up? Her serious, remote demeanor is part of the charm of Morocco. I know it's hard to grasp. .... Whether this is good or bad is up for interpretation. MD's beauty and mysterious demeanor will live on forever, she is an icon for good reason.
