World premiere of KOJ restoration

The restored KING OF JAZZ had its world premiere tonight at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. I was part of a packed house in attendance, and I can tell you that the restoration exceeded my expectations. The evening was a roaring success, and the audience thoroughly enjoyed themselves, applauding throughout the picture. Kudos to everyone who worked on this restoration; it is spectacular.

I highly recommend the restored film to any old movie buff who has an opportunity to take in a screening in the coming months.

I was there too! Absolutely wonderful occasion. And watch for the forthcoming book on the movie, due in October.

The film is having it's West Coast Premiere at AMPAS's Samuel Goldwyn Theatre on August 17th. I hope to be there!

I would like to know if the restoration will have a big-screen release here in the United Kingdom, or whether it will receive a blu-ray release in this country. Holy muckerel! When I saw the restored 'Rhapsody in Blue' sequence on YouTube, I went and got myself rather excited; so much so that I immediately got down upon my knees and prayed to whatever god was out there (you choose) to please get these Hollywood studios to get over their collective hangup about screening and/or home-video releasing their classics and lesser-known films outside of the USA. King of Jazz, not to mention all the other great musicals of the period that are still around, deserves a world-wide release.

The film has been booked in London as you may know by now. Details of all coming screenings can be accessed on Facebook: King of Jazz Universal's Technicolor Revue. I am happy to say that KOJ will be shown at The Heights Theater in Minneapolis on Sunday, October 16th. You can be sure I'll be there!
