This film is a prime candidate for a full restoration and release on DVD. However, having slipped into public domain for years before new copyright laws restored its ownership to Fox, I'm not sure Fox has the least interest in it now. Several poor video copies have circulated for over 20 years made from old splicey chopped up 16mm TV prints.
This film was an American musical comedy satire version of Fritz Lang's classic Art Deco Science Fiction epic METROPOLIS (UFA, 1926). For this reason alone it should be required viewing for film students and fans of 1930s American cinema.

Hopefully sometime in the near future some film restoration group such as AFI, Kino or Pacific Film Archive will restore it and license it for DVD and video release, as well as theatrical release for art film festivals.
It's certain that Fox will never do it. To them the 1950s is ancient history, let alone the early Fox era before it became 20th Century Fox in 1935.

It was on today on Fox Movie Channel. This is a weird one. I have to say it. The idol sequence was such an eye-roller, and I'm not big on musicals, but this is one people ought to see, if for no other reason, to see "the world of tomorrow." I'm always interested in past vision of the future.

It is NOT heresy, I WILL NOT RECANT!

It was on the Fox Movie Channel on Feb 5, 2006. Being and Art Deco fan, I was mesmerized with the set. Anyone interested in this type of architecture and design should make a point of it to see this film.

It came on FMC or TMC the other day as well. The futuristic suit and ties that the men wore in this film really didn't look all that bad, and that kind of style might have actually caught on during the real 1980s. Infact I'm sure some fashion designer somewhere tried that look at sometime.

I actually just bought it on DVD at my local thrift shop.
It has no manufacturer or distributor info other than "Issued by PRS" on the disc itself and the barcode info Distributed by Kunaki, LLC. The barcode # is 45029 03431 if that helps anybody.

It is pretty much what you'd expect from a public domain print, but it appears intact and even includes a few censor's marks indicating where some of the racier scenes should be cut (but weren't).
