A funny and too prolific imdb commentator named telegonus or something calls this a hackneyed plot. Someone has to tell him this is a 78 year-old movie. ANY PLOT WAS ORIGINAAL AT THE TIME, DUDE!!!

I'll go along with that - same as there are a bunch of cliched lines in there. But all cliches were original once...
"Wait till they get a load of me!"
I thought all the "original" plots got used up two or three-thousand years ago.
All we can add are some "new" scenery dressing.

"hackneyed"? No. Dramatically obvious? Yes.
I still love this movie, but I definitely don't watch it for the plot.

You know we had literature and plays before this movie was made right? Even in it's own time this movie was criticised for it's plot. There were probably other movies before this that had similar stories.
