It would be no loss if the motion picture industry were to pile up all
films such as these that contain white actors in black-face giving
their "interpretation" of a "black native" or simply a black man and
burn them into a heaping melted mass.
I recently saw this on "Turner Classic Movies" and immediately sent
word to them that I didn't appreciate the insensitivity shown by them
in airing this offensive tripe and claiming it it as "classic".
oh my gosh.., i just watch it on TCM and i was completely irritated by the movie. very ignorant and freaking racist. i thought i'de be the only one watching it.

Just so you know, MGM lost a lot of money on it when it came out.

Although I find BIRTH OF A NATION rancid, I still want it to be available to any who wish to see it. Never seen GOLDEN but I've read about it. Like BIRTH, I want GOLDEN to remain available on cable and DVD for those who want to see it.

Every age has its faults. Right now we don't have dumb blackface characters, we have ludicrous whites in movies like Django and the Butler (that egregious piece of black grievance porn). Who knows how that will look 80 years from now?
I just wonder what made R & H do a musical about prisoners of war in colonial Africa in the first place. Anyone know?
