Movies used to be so much fun! Sound quality is so poor - what a shame

As in many of these early films, there is so much hissing during the film that I find it difficult to hear. I enjoy these early films because of the historical information they can provide - about film, the era they were filmed in - how people dressed, lived, what they ate, and a lot of little things you can pick up just by watching these films. I know this is true of every film era, but the 20's and 30's personally fascinate me. Additionally, these films can be just plain fun.

I think about a crowded movie theater, how people used to enjoy movies, what society used to be like - no TV, no tech devices, etc. People went to the theater several times a week. There were no cellphone interruptions. If a funny movie was playing, I imagine how how almost everyone in the audience laughed together. Why, even when I was a child in the 1960's, I remember seeing cartoons and shorts as well as the film, and not seeing one-half hour of previews. As a child I used to sit in the balcony with the other kids, and we would surreptitiously throw popcorn down on the movie audience in the seats below. What fun.
