Wonder if this inspired Gleason, Carney?

Watching this right now on MoviesTV network ... I wonder if this movie inspired the classic "Honeymooners" episode in which Ralph and Ed defy their wives by drinking a bottle of wine -- except that Alice has substituted grape juice for the wine, nevertheless Ralph and Ed get smashed on the grape juice anyway. Jackie Gleason and Art Carney were known to be admirers of L&H -- in fact in one of the "lost" Honeymooners they do a very direct impersonation of L&H -- so I've got to think it's possible.

The line "Do you mind if I smoke?". "I don't care if you burn!" was lifted from, at least, two Laurel and Hardy films.

It was also a line used in the Bela Lugosi movie, NIGHT OF TERROR (1933) between a couple of "dumb" detectives. I gather lines like that originated from vaudeville and continued to be used in movies and later TV shows without knowing the origins of it, in fact, what comics were the first to recite that famous line, "Do you mind if I smoke?" Response: "I don't care if you burn." Don't think Abbott and Costello used it in any of their movies, through, but I think, not really certain, it was used on one of the episodes of their "Abbott and Costello Show" TV program, but could be mistaken on that one. ????
