I just saw this earlier today -amazing!

The sound quality is pretty bad, even by 1930 standards. It sounds like all the actors have to shout their lines to be heard. But the imagery is amazing. The scene with John Wayne sneaking up on the villain when both are on opposite sides of a fallen redwood tree during a snowstorm is one of the most beautiful shots ever filmed. I'll have to record it next time FMC shows it.

I agree with you on the sound. At times it was slightly hard to hear what the characters were saying. I must admit it was interesting to watch John Wanye in The Big Trail as he was yet to develop his now famous screen persona. Though his character did have some of the traits his persona was known for.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not".
