The lengths to which people will go - SPOILER ALERT

Is that what the movie's about? The prince goes to great lengths to get a woman; another's man's wife. John, Lillie's husband is willing to do the unthinkable; kill a man or let him be mauled by a tiger. And, Lillie's willing to have an affair.

The question I have is why? It's never clear why these people are willing to do these things. Is she just a challenge or does he care for her? Does he want to kill the prince for revenge or to keep his wife? Does she decide to have an affair with him because she's bored or has he grown on her?

I enjoyed the movie. It's entertaining yet it's strange and none of it makes much sense.

It's that Garbo magic! All her silent films seem to be like this.

I fully agree. And I'd add that this is, IMHO, one of her more "worldly" movies, since she laughs a lot and very often, and is far less "mysterious" than in others.
