Continuity error and ending

Having just read the reviews on the other page, I wanted to point out a couple things:

The "continuity error" spoken about in which Swanson goes in the bathroom to freshen with short hair and emerges with long hair isn't actually an error, but a misunderstanding of the hairstyle. What looks like a bob is actually a head of long hair wrapped, attached, and loosely waved, giving the appearance of shorter hair. When detached, the length is apparent. This was a common style of the day.

It was interesting hear Swanson speak about the ending, in that the saccharine sweet surprise was in fact the US ending of the film. The European release apparently didn't include the tagged on happy end, giving a real operatic finish to what really comes off as a traditional Verdi opera plot. Give the public what they want, I say.
