The important thing

Myrna Loy and Loretta Young survived this. And Carroll Nye kept his career going long enough to play Frank Kennedy in 'GWTW". Ah, the transition to sound! Somehow Zasu Pitts comes out of this unscathed. She appears to have been completely unfazed by the new and no doubt onerous sound equipment. Way to go Zasu!

I was very surprised. I started watching the movie thinking it was a silent movie then, all of a sudden, I heard dialogue. Based on the date, I think it's the earliest talkie I've seen. I didn't find it clunky and hard to watch as I would have expected.

I rather enjoyed the film. The themes, which I pay particular attention to in movies, are all still relevant today. A family's kindness blows up in their face. They let the wrong person; a lying vamp who has abandoned her family, into their home and she ruins them. The issues of who to trust and sexual temptation are still relevant today.

I was also surprised to see such a young Myrna Loy. She's twenty-four in this but looks much younger. Loretta Young, was a mere sixteen. I hadn't realized she was a child actress. By the time she made this movie, she already had many others under her belt.

These are part of the reasons I love old movies. They usually tell interesting stories, I get to see some of my favorite actors in their early years, and I get a little history into the movies of the past. What's not to love?

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

as i recall, myrna tells the family she is only 15, and of course, they dont believe her. in any case, that squeaky, terrible voice was SO annoying. certainly it was part of her sympathy bit to have the family accept her, but yeegods. it must have been terrible to have to do that thru the entire film.
