Edition Filmmuseum are releasing the film on DVD on 17th December 2007. It is a reconstructed version made up of the remaining surviving footage and stills. The second disc includes three early films from the mid-teens directed by Frank Borzage and also starring him.

I understand the release has been delayed, and is actually now coming out today - 14th January 2008. But still, great news. Now all we need is for Lucky Star and Street Angel to get a release!
shareThis reconstruction of The River (56' 44") was issued by Fox in 2008 on the flip side of their DVD of 7th Heaven, currently in stock from Netflix (listed as Seventh Heaven). This disc appears to be from the 12-disc box set "Murnau, Borzage and Fox" as shown currently at Amazon.
