Herbert Bunston

Herbert Bunston plays Lord Elton in this first film version of Frederick Lonsdale's theatrical chestnut from the 20's, and at first I found his performance so dreadfully overdone it was embarrassing. He kept it up for the entire length of the film, but I found myself warming up to him as he at least drew some smiles as the very prototype of the "silly ass" type of aristocrat so common to British comedy. That was more than anyone else was doing in this quite stilted and slow production. Norma Shearer is pretty and Basil Rathbone very, very young, but both have been far better elsewhere. I was impressed by George Barraud, who is good looking and underplays with some charm, but he seems to have turned to writing in the mid-30's and given up acting, which may be why I've never heard of him.
