Excellent - the movie and the genre

I love this movie. I haven't seen a lot of silent movies but a lot of the ones I have seen have been really good. Before I started watching them I always expected they'd be crude and basic but that's not what I've found. The stories are pretty elaborate yet they're told so beautifully and with so few words. I didn't think even a simple story could be told well without dialogue, again, I was wrong.

Come to think of it, most of us are proficient at reading body language, gestures, and facial expressions; we've been doing it since birth. We grew up to understand relationships between people and are able to sense the mood between them by watching their interactions, their proximity to each other, body positions, eye contact, etc. It's second nature; we don't even realize we're doing it.

Silent movies, therefore, are probably easier for us to understand and follow than talkies because we probably pay closer attention when there are fewer words on which to rely.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
