FINALLY, THIS FILMS HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY RELEASED ON DVD!!

Unfortunately, it's just a Warner Archive release, but hopefully it's in good enough condition!

I noticed that too just recently - they've put out nearly all the early talkie musicals from MGM and WB which is great! Among them WB's answer to this movie Show of Shows and the great Duncan Sisters in their only starring talkie It's a Great Life . I suspect very little restoration was done on these though since they are for the WB custom label - I wonder if they corrected that "off center" look of the all-star lineup songs mentioned in the trivia section.

Has anyone bought it yet? :) Was it in good quality?

It's airing next on TCM right now! I'm going to record it right to DVD.

Nothing was done to improve the quality of the movie. The sound is muffled & scratchy, the picture is off-center due to technical reasons explained in another post, and there are "jumps" where bits of film were clipped out for whatever reason -- damage, something objectionable to the community where the print they used for the DVD transfer was used.

But do not let those factors slow you down! This is a nifty little film, with lots of stars doing lots of rather surprising stuff.

Personally, I can't imagine how Joan Crawford won a Charleston contest. She dances so awkwardly in her bit! Marie Dressler demonstrates why she was so popular, and Bessie Love is just plain adorable.

It's a fun movie, so it's worth enduring the tech deficiencies. But I wouldn't buy it until a cleaner version is released.
