I've read about this film for years but only seen it in bits and pieces. Considering it was orginally planned as a silent, the sound was added later and the fact that most of the cast had never acted before, it was an incredible achievement, the first all-African Amerrican musical film released by a major studio. The only tragedy - Nina Mae McKinney was born 70 years too early. If she had been white, she would have been a major star cast opposite the biggest actors of the day.
