What was the song the Grandmother sings?
The scene where she is trying to put the child to sleep - is there a historical basis for this lullaby, or origin thereof?
Thanks

Here I am four years after your post. Even though I don't know the title of the song, it sounds so familiar because.....Good Lord....she sounds just like my grandmother!!!
I am 67 years old, and remember sitting in my grandmother's lap while she rocked me in her rocking chair...that is one of my favorite scenes in this film! My grandmother was from a tiny town in Arkansas, and as I grew up, she shared many heartbreaking stories with me about her childhood and the racism/oppression/adversities she experienced living in the rural south; picking cotton, cooking in a white boarding house for the men who worked on the oil rigs, etc.
Whenever I see this movie and it gets to that scene....it puts me right back in her lap and I hear her voice.
Because I get caught up in the nostalgic feel of the song....I tend not to pay attention to the words. If I can figure out what it is.....I will post the answer here.
"OOhhhooo....I'M GON' TELL MAMA!"
