Why is the movie titled Woman IN the Moon instead of Woman ON the Moon which would seem to make more sense?

I figured it was meant to stand in contrast with the expression, "the man in the moon."
shareSure it was. A lot of things about this movie was intended as a feminist statement and really forward thinking for that time period.
I believe it was a woman who wrote the screen play,so much of the liberated scene's by the female lead in this movie was intentional

That woman who wrote the screenplay was apparently Fritz Lang's wife.
