why doesn't the academy release the films that won an Oscar on dvd


no dvd why the academy doesn't put out a dvd of movies the won in all acting catorgories,and picture that are not available

I suspect it's because they don't hold the necessary copyrights and they'd have to negotiate with the studios for the DVD rights for each film.

I'm hoping this movie will end up on a MOD disc sometime, but I suspect it's not out on DVD because A) few mainstream moviegoers in 2011 know who Disraeli was and B) George Arliss' acting style didn't age very well (IMHO).

Arliss came from a stage background and, boy, does it show in his films. I'm not saying he's not good, (I liked him in The Guv'nor and The House of Rothschild) only that 21st Century mainstream audiences have a hard enough time coping with (gasp!) black and white films, let alone someone as "stagey" as Arliss is in some of his performances.
