Snow Leopard: Point Well Made

Snow Leopard made a few good points in his review of this movie. Though I haven't yet seen this film (and I can't wait to see Mary Pickford in an early talkie), I am quite sure that there is simply too much talking, as there was in many of the earliest talking pictures. Snow Leopard makes this point in his review, which brings me to my compliment; the review likened the excessive talking to the overuse of CGI and other computer graphics techniques in many of todays' films.

At once I am reminded of the slow-motion regeneration of action sequences which I first saw in "The Matrix" (wasn't it cool then?) which now is used in many films, to the point where this technique has become downright comical in most instances. Another notable instance of overuse: I recently saw a 2004 release of "A Christmas Carol" which was done entirely via computer animation. It was well done, but I have to ask, why? Certainly Jim Carey, who played Scrooge, could easily have been made up to fit the character, and couldn't the production studio have handled the rest?

Probably the best review I've read on IMDB. He nailed my thoughts on Coquette. Mary Pickford was a Goddess of the silent era. Let's remember her for that and not the sad roles she was offered in the talkie era.
