I have often wondered, especially since he was not on camera during the scene, if that was Groucho accompanying Harpo on the guitar? (Groucho played the guitar on camera in at least three movies: "Monkey Business", "Horse Feathers", and "Go West", not to mention a few times on "You Bet Your Life")

Harpo Marx was a very talented self-taught and extremely accomplished musician, most profient on harp. His son, also a musician, actually produced several albums of his father's music which can easily be found on Amazon.com.

The Marxes, like most vaudevillians, were, if not expert, then at least proficient, on a variety of instruments. I recall seeing Groucho on either "The Mike Douglas Show" or "The Merv Griffin Show" in the late 60's and he played guitar and mandolin credibly. I've read that Chico also played guitar, violin and cello. Buster Keaton played guitar, banjo, ukelele and mandolin with great facility. And of course, let's not mention Sammy Davis Jr. (trumpet, trap drums, vibes, bass fiddle, bongoes, and who knows what else)!

Sammy would have been great in the Marxes' movies!
