It's been a long time since I was so enthralled and emotionally involved

... while watching a film. When I rented it, the guy at the video store said something like: "You've got to see it if only for its historical significance, but it's a little dry and cold."

I can't believe it. Dry and cold? Man, this film made me react physically. I was completely absorbed. It was an incredibly intense watching experience. I just finished it 20 minutes ago and I still don't know what to say. Sorry for this useless post. I'll come back when I've gathered my thoughts.

I leaned on the wall - the wall leaned away.

I agree! I just watched it about an hour ago & my jaw is still hanging open! That was intense!

I know exactly what you mean! This film is superb; I am at a loss of words to describe the emotions this film evoked in me.

Such a jewel! How rare viewing real life in the 20's. And in Russia to boot. The film is referred to as "experimental." Funny, the need to classify real life as an experiment. Wonderful...

I loved this film. What an experience, especially the version with Michael Nyman's music. I wonder if something like this could be made today? Probably not - such was Dersov's genius.

Yeah, in terms of pure visual aesthetic, few have ever rivalled what Eisenstein and Vertov managed in the 1920´s - and arguably none surpassed. Soviet montage rules (and, incidentally, it´s also about the only thing "Soviet" that does or did so).

Couldn't agree more. Probably the most mind-blowing, eye-opening thing I've ever seen. Truly unforgettable. My heart was in my mouth at more than one point.
