Important but not too good


I appreciate the films historic importance, and Vertov contribution to Soviet Montage but I really don't think it's a particularly good film. Especially considering what was being made in Germany around the same time

Yeah I agree, cinematography and editing were innovative but two years prior you have films like Metropolis which I personally favor much more than this. They're two different types of film though. I always look at Man with a Movie Camera as a collection of moving pictures in the literal sense as opposed to a movie.

I agree, if you needed a film to epitomise the Kinoks or if you were interested in Soviet Mintage it's brilliant but what was happening in Germany around the same time (Caligari, Nisferatu, Metropolis, Sunrise etc) were much better films in my opinion. Though the Soviets didn't have the stock or market to compete with those kind of films
