Ever Released?

I know this is an old film, but can't someone at lease show it on the late show? Has all copies of it been destroyed or something? I’ve been trying to catch it on the telly for years.

You would think it would be released, especially this year which marks Louise Brooks' 100th birthday.

Try Sunrise Silents (sunrisesilents.com) or you can rent it from the mail order movie rental service Silver Screen Archive (silverscreenarchive.com).

Alas, "The Canary Murder Case" is the property of Paramount Pictures. Paramount finds it much more profitable to hastily produce sloppily put-together TV on DVD - substitute the original music, syndicated versions with the original endings cut off, etc. - than to release some of their classic films. Most of them haven't even been properly preserved, so any quality restoration and release is impossible. Warner Bros. they are not.

The closest thing you'll find to a quality release might be the good folks over at vintagefilmbuff.com. It's a bit rough - there are some scratches in the video, but the audio comes through clearly enough, and vfb is a legitimate business.
