What's Up with 1928...?
This movie was made in 1924 not 1928.... What's up with IMDB's date!
shareIMDb generally just accepts original submitted info and lets people correct any errors later. This can get hairy because taking users' info on face value isn't always 100% credible. Speaking of which, what are your sources?

Wikipedia says 1928 and so does everybody else. Where did you get 1924?

On TCM Robert Osborne said it came out a year after "The Jazz Singer" - the first "talkie". That movie was 1927 so ... do the math.
shareLeonard Maltin in his movie guide also lists this movie as coming out in 1928.
shareEvery film history book I've seen that mentions it says it's a 1928 film. It has always been mentioned as the last film of Lillian Gish's MGM contract which would make it 1928. Lillian's contract with MGM didn't even begin until 1926!
shareBesides the other evidence that you have stated, here is this: Lars Hanson was so upset over the happy ending forced upon this movie by the studio that he left Hollywood and returned to Sweden. If he did this in 1924, it would have made making "The Scarlet Letter" with Lillian Gish in 1926 rather difficult. (Before anyone says that I have made a mistake -- "The Scarlet Letter" was filmed in 1926, but released in early January, 1927.)
