I have my grandfather's pocket watch; he received it as a gift from my grandmother. The back has the inscription, “With love to Nikki from Mitzi 12-25-24”. I know these “pet names” were taken from a play – obviously one from before Christmas 1924. Can anyone confirm that this 1928 movie was derived from an earlier play?

The IMDB credits are for Harry Carr and Erich von Stroheim as writers. The IMDB is generally quite good about credits, so my guess is that this is an original screenplay.
