A great movie!

I'm glad I watched it. You can bet next time I will also record it when TCM gives us another chance. This movie is great.

SPOILER ALERT!!

Chicago had a bad reputation then of being overrun by criminals and much political and judicial corruption even in the police department. This movie was made during the midst of it and was a movie well ahead of its' time. What is disturbing is that the most honest of the police (McQuigg) even uses illegal tactics and violates rights (that criminals even had then), ignores the law, and uses police brutality. There are no real heros. The public did not have a big outcry and demand something be done about Chicago until a few months after the realease when the St. Valentine's Day Massacre happened.

It is a great movie - it could use a bit more restoration work in some places, like the shoot out early on. I thought it was raining with all of the small vertical scratches.

All the acting is great. The two news reporters in search of a story were a total crack up. Especially Richard Gallagher (blond guy with the drinking habit).
