Garbo

I can't remember this movie, but rated it 1, so this is not by all means her best movie. What she thought being her best The Joyless street btw. So before rating this, take the time to view what She liked. That said, Georg Wilhelm Pabst, who was a genius (cf. Greed 1924, movies with Louise Brooks ? remember ?, also The Love of Jeanne Ney) made certainly a better job than this guy here, almost anonymously.

Garbo was a star before coming to the US, known for The Gosta Berling Saga and The Joyless street. Then, Hollywood tried to make money (what else ?) with here name. Therefore a couple of movies where done by Niblo and Brown, who today no one remember, who where just managers, not directors. They stuffed their movies with every thing they thought would sell very well, paillettes, adventure, exoticism, danger, jealousy etc. Only they had no skill, no talent and no artistic vision what so ever. Melodramas for the riches, the "audience" aimed at that time. Pure commercials productions, without any serious subject, without any talent.

I personally consider first The Joyless street (2 versions exists, one from the Munich film institute), then The Grand Hotel, but not even Camille is a great movie. It's painful. Now the rest, i have to watch.
