This is a great movie.

I've just finished watching this film for the third time, in just a little over a year, and it gets better every time. I watched it for the first time when it premiered on TCM in November of 2006. It stayed on my DVR for several months until I watched it for a second time. I recently rerecorded and rewatched it again and it is such an awesome movie. Great story, directing, acting. . . just great all-around. And, definitely worth a mention, Evelyn Brent and Helen Foster are absolutely gorgeous, which Renee Adoree's not too bad herself. The Mating Call deserves much more attention than it currently receives, including an official DVD release (yes I'm talking to you Flicker Alley).

You're right. I just watched it for the first time and I thought it was a wonderful film. I thought the storyline was really interesting and different. The photography was excellent.

I've seen it once, and I'd very much like to see it again. Does anyone know when it'll be shown again. Sheesh! I missed it in Jan of 2008. Dang.

Much too late, I know, but THE MATING CALL is on Turner Classic Movies right now, as I write this early on July 23, 2012. It started at 12:30 a.m. EST. Hope you caught it. Steve V.

You mean you hated Evelyn Brent's character, Rose Henderson, right? I thought Brent was excellent as the young woman who learned amorality from a true master: her own philandering husband!

Whatever you do, DO NOT read this sig--ACKKK!!! TOO LATE!!!

I found her manipulative and I don't like sexually aggressive women. She deserved the husband she married..

reply

Well, okay, then. I was merely trying to establish as to whether you hated Brent (the actress) or the wanton young woman she portrayed, so I guess I understand you now :-)
