Is there a name for what they had?

Is there a name for whatever caused Chaney's character to cry uncontrollably and the other man to laugh the same way?

reply

My guess would be depression for Tito and mania for the Count, but don't know for sure.

reply

Perhaps, I just figured for them, for Tito anyway it was something more...severe.

reply

Hysterical laughter? Hysteria was widely diagnosed then, usually for women.

reply

The Greeks had a word for it.

I don't know if there IS an actual name for this condition. I DO know that when I have had periods in my life when I have been having LOTS of sex, I have found myself laughing a lot. What the doctor said is true - when you meet the one you settle down with, the laughter stops... LOLOLOL!

reply

The affliction is called "overacting" or Hamitosis.

reply

Yeah, Tito definitely had depression. Having suffered from it myself, I could see a lot of the signs. Chaney was excellent at acting out the way the person he was playing would really act.
