stunning scene

when Chaney sees Young dressed up for her first peformance his face shows great paternal pride, then desire when he recognizes her beauty and budding sensuality, then guilt over his feelings. In one scene he shows more acting ability than most any actor in history.

I concur completely. Chaney is so under appreciated and should be as known as Chaplin or Valentino of that era. That scene and many others should his subtlety and passion with no need for makeup.

I agree! I love that scene! Chaney is the greatest! This is definitely my all-time fave movie! Even though it makes me cry harder than I have ever cried during a movie! I can't stop watching it! Another scene I love, which is one of the happier moments, is when Tito and Simon are trying to cheer up Simonetta! When Tito turns around with that big nose and goofy glasses I always laugh so hard! It's just so funny and cute!

Chaney was a master when it came to acting. It didn't matter that the film was silent. You didn't need sound to understand what his character was feeling at any given moment. You could read Chaney like a book. A true master who died far too early
