Write to Paramount...

...and please ask for this silent classic to be released on DVD. Emil Jannings gives the best performance of his career and this is also another one of Josef von Sternberg's best. While asking for this, also ask for other of their silents like The Docks of New York, Wings, and The Covered Wagon.

Paramount seems to have no interest what so ever in their film heritage! However Wings and Covered Wagon were on Laser Disc having both, Wings is on DVD from 2 Chinese companys Bo ying being one of them, both region 1 disc's Yes Docks of New York would be very nice to have also, as this title gets good write up in, Browblow: The Prades's gone by, 1968 book on silent film

And it is magnificent. My god it completely obliterates Wings. How did it not win Best Picture? Just another of those guffaws to Oscar.

No need to write.

In 2013, this is the usual fine Criterion DVD in the Netflix queue. You have a choice of 2 musical scores, the great Robert Israel or The Alloy Orchestra (3 people!). I went with Alloy, this time.

There's a short voiceover commentary on the film in special features.

Screw Paramount. They're money hungry and they won't make enough selling DVD's/Blu-Rays with this.
