If you're interested in this film, there is a good 40-minute reconstruction entitled "Murnau's 4 Devils: Traces of a Lost Film" which is an extra on the 20th Century Fox dvd of "Sunrise". It was produced in 2003 by Janet Bergstrom, who is also the writer and narrator. It includes photos, story boards, excerpts from the screen play, and information on the production, reviews, and changes made without Murnau's consent. The rumor which started last October that a print of the film was found is undoubtedly false, so this is the closest anyone will ever come to experiencing this lost film.

Some believe that it actually does exist, the negative is still residing (in terrible condidtion) in a vault somewhere. I have heard quite a few rumors that this is true.

This recontruction is pretty moving and I really hope they find the negative or some sort of print somewhere.

I would guess that, with so many other silents having been unearthed the past couple of decades, this will eventually be found.

I just saw the documentary, which is also on the City Girl DVD.
