Why did Sweetland not want the bartender woman?

They seemed to hit it off real well. Did I miss a scene? The last scene with him talking to her they were laughing and enjoying each other's company and then when they show each of the potential wife's images sitting in his widow's chair they show her again, but she looks upset.
