Lost, Divine woman

I guess only place to see the 9 minutes remaining is on Laser Disc Box set of Silents Garbo, or is the Russian reel different? How in He** did MGM let this silent turn to dust or get tossed out?

Another thing about Garbo's 27 films, Why has, Inspiration, Romance, Susan Lennox: Her rise and fall, As You Desire Me, Conquest, and her final film, Two Faced Woman never been on Laser Disc nor DVD. Especially Two Faced Woman perhaps only time we would get to see Garbo in a swim suit.

They simply didn't care about preserving the movies they made in those days, particularly the silents, they were considered worthless when talkies came in. It's a miracle that so many did survive. I agree with your second comment about the release of her other movies. Lets keep our fingers crossed for a release.

Life isn't a rehearsal, so make this one your best performance

It's true that they didn't care too much about preservation of films, but they weren't necessarily considered worthless. Some film stock was recycled for the silver content.

Considering the legend that Garbo has been for 80-some years, it's kind of surprising that there are that many of her films not on DVD.

Who knows, maybe like the lost footage of "Metropolis", some reels will show up somewhere.

Somebody uploaded it to YouTube. It actually looks fairly good if you click the "watch in high quality" link above the views count.

TCM also played it once back in May 2008 as a "short film", and will likely play it again as they tend to replay their shorts a lot.

That's part of your problem, you haven't seen enough movies. All of life's riddles are answered in the movies.

I just watched the clip on YouTube and it's wonderful. Such a shame. Hope the rest of the film is found.

The video you linked was taken down by Warner Bros, but you can still watch the 9 minute fragment here:

Also, The Swedish Film Institute holds two, newly restored, fragments of this film in their archives. They publicly screened these fragments on the 27th of February 2011. You can see some screen caps of these fragments here:

Such a shame the movie is lost. Maybe someday they'll find the rest of it.
