Why do female IMDb voters ages 45+ apparently hate this movie?

I just observed, on the IMDb users' voting place for this movie, that pretty much all viewers (each age and gender category) who have voted have rated this movie, on average, at or close to 8 stars. The glaring single exception is female voters ages 45+, who, of the 288 who have, to date, voted, have given scores that average to only a paltry 4.3 stars. Any idea why everyone except women 45+ is impressed, while that sole voting category apparently considers this film to be utter dreck? I'm male in the 45+ age bracket, and I've never seen such a huge disparity in my age bracket's male/female IMDb user voting scores for any major classic, so find it highly perplexing.

Beats me. I'm female and over 45 and thought it was a great movie, so impressed with the two lead actors' expressiveness. Perhaps other older women don't like the semi-deadbeat-ness of John. ???

reply

That could well be. There's such excellent, totally believable acting in this movie, by the two leads, and it's such an interesting story, that so effectively unfolds, that seems like even voters who'd view the male lead as lousy husband material still would be impressed by the movie overall.

reply

I'm mystified by that, too.

OTOH, self-selected polling is notoriously inaccurate, so we can take comfort that plenty of 45+ women undoubtedly love this film, too. 

Hmmmm...I'm a female 45+ voter, and I gave it 10 stars. I have no idea why others in my category rate it so low. 

I wonder what the sample size was. Could you tell how many woman in that specific bracket, there actually were?

The reason I ask is, if you are dealing with a sample size of less then 2000 to 3000 people, there would be no expectation of too much accuracy. It really takes those kinds of numbers to start equalizing things out.

Per the IMDb voting results (as of today's date, 10/13/16, 7:20p.m. Eastern US time) chart for this movie, there has been a total of 5643 overall voters, either gender, any age bracket. That 5643 total was comprised of 3899 males, 776 women. 1177 males, age 45+, on average give this movie a 7.5 (out of possible perfect 10) rating. 300 women, age 45+, on average give this movie a 4.5.

Of course, this has all been voluntary (rather than random survey) proactive voting, anyone who wishes to rate a movie they've watched - one vote per any IMDb user who has voted for the film. For some reason, dramatically more males than females have chosen to vote for this movie.

Today there are 7400 votes, and all groups 18+ are 8.0/8.1. There are 395 women 45+.

Because the husband treated his wife like shit until he found out she was pregnant.
