What Tchaikovsky themes were quoted and used for the soundtrack? As well as basic Russian/Ukraine folk tunes?

I'm admittedly ignorant as far as your question is concerned and hopefully others will come along in this thread to provide answers. But I do know that Robert Israel is credited with the 2004 edition's score and maybe just knowing that much can get you going from there.

Thanks for Robert Israel's name. I cudgeled my brain to remember the name flashed on the screen as happens after TCM silents creditation.

I recognized phrases from Aram Khachaturian's work and as well as Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov's "Caucasian Sketches" in several places

Found out I suffer from allergic ad populum stultum.
When exposed I break out in arguments.
