The Original Score from 1928

There has been some talk about the original 1928 score for THE COSSACKS. I would like to clarify a simple point about this item. According to studio research, the score that was prepared (and even this is not entirely clear), was never recorded. If it was, there are no discs available, but the most current information is that the film was considered for scoring, a cue sheet was prepared by the studio musicians, but nothing was ever recorded or put to the film–this was by order of MGM in 1930.

Al Westerfield made a comment in his review of this most current release and states that his only complaint is that Turner Classic Movies decided to employ me to provide a new score. There is no doubt that if the original score (which appears to have never been recorded by order of the studio) existed, TCM would have used that for their presentation.

So, the fact that an original score never existed, does this make my score any better or any worse for Al Westerfield?

Robert, I just finished watching The Cossacks and must say that I thought your score was truly excellent!
