Is any footage missing?

So many of these silent films were chopped up and it's hard to know if what we have now is the real full version.

I was wondering if any of 'The Cameraman' is missing? I watched the dvd today, and it struck me that there's a bit of a logical gap in the scene where Buster finds that he has no film in his camera after coming back from the Tong War. Sally gets in trouble for passing the tip to him, and then we see her putting on her hat as Stagg argues with the boss in the background and Buster looks agonized over the trouble he's caused. Then he says he'll go away and not bother them again, and leaves. But at this point, Sally is sitting at her desk again, with no hat on. To me, it looks as if Sally was FIRED, and was getting ready to leave the office. Stagg seems to be arguing against this unfairness, and I surmise that at this point, Buster joins in and takes all the blame in order to save her job. THEN he speaks his line about leaving and not bothering her again. It's the only way I can see to explain why Sally has her hat on, and then finishes the scene back at her desk. She was on the point of leaving, then something intervened and the boss relented. And it would be very in character for Buster to sacrifice himself to save her.

Flat, drab passion meanders across the screen!

Apparently not much, and not from the part of the film you reference. Here is an in-depth discussion of what is missing: http://www.nitrateville.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10869 -- also in a thread just below this, here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0018742/board/thread/14332929
