Historical significance

This is a very cool movie. Made just a few years after the "Great War". The directors knew how to stage the fight scenes and the air combat scenes accurately. They put the cameras on the plane so you could get a pilots perspective. The air combat scenes were very long. This was similar to "Birth of a Nation" from 1915, where there were plenty of advisors that were able to advise the battle to look like the battles form the civil war.
I don't think you could beat either of these movies for authenticity.
