I saw it on TCM last night...

And I thought it was a very enjoyable movie. The concept is so out-there that I loved it! I also thought the music on the TCM aired version was spectacular! Anyone know which version contains this soundtrack?

Yeah I think I saw it at the same time as you. I really loved this movie. It is my first introduction to Lon Chaney, and pretty much to the silent movie world. It is the first silent movie that i really liked. I am now trying to get my hands on more Lon Chaney.
Reminded me a bit of Phantom of the Opera, though. Us gals always seem to fall for the ugly psycho lunatic murderer. What can you do; it's sexy.

I agree about this movie having similarities with Phantom of the Opera, but I enjoyed this one more than Phantom. In fact, I really don't find Phantom of the Opera that enjoyable to watch, as I think the pacing is way too slow, but I know many people would wish to slap me for such a statement.

I'm glad that this movie turned you on to Lon Chaney and silent movies. I'm not exactly a silent movie buff, but I do enjoy a good handful of silent films. I'm so happy that TCM plays silent films on Sunday nights!

The recently released dvd set has the music...I agree, I just loved it too.
What an ending, and I would have never known that was Joan Crawford!

Agreed that it totally rocks! I adore TCM,it's always on my TV. I agree that if they hadn't told me it was Joan Crawford I would not know who the girl was. She looks like a child almost. She did a fair job, but the movie absolutely belongs to Lon Chaney. It was the first film of his I've seen, and so far the only complete film of his I've seen. I tried to watch The Huntchback Of Notre Dam, but I just couldn't get past the outrageously overdone make up and overplayed acting. It was a big let down for me. But just this performance alone is enough for me to say I'm a fan. The scene of him finding out that Joan was to be married, and his facial expression goes through a rainbow of emotion. It gives me chills. Love it! And the suspense when it comes to the horse trick near the end is very well played. Flawless.

Joan Crawford looked great in this film. What happened to her afterwards?

She became a star. 'Nuff said.

There's a real simple explanation as to why this movie is similar to Phantom of the Opera, Lon Chaney starred in that too.

Does TCM air the version with the Alloy Orchestra music?

If so, this is the version available on amazon:
