Except for the booklet - It looks to be basically the same as the original Region 1 Fox DVD and Region 2's original Eureka DVD.

Does anyone think there will be a greatly improved video transfer? - I mean, it does say "Restored high-definition transfer" - so it looks like some new work might have been done on the movie - or maybe some new film elements have been discovered? Realistically - it'll probably just be a better video transfer created from the same restoration that was used to create the original DVDs. That isn't really a bad thing - I think the movie looks beautiful in its current presentation - but wouldn't it be wonderful if Sunrise could look even better?

I got the DVD over a year ago, it was a special promotion from Fox. You buy 3 of the 10 movies they had on a list, save the receipts etc., send in everything with the cost of shipping, and 6 weeks later I got the DVD for free!!

I fell in love with this movie when it had a special showing in Seattle a few years ago. The film was introduced by the conductor of the Olympic Chamber Orchestra who also wrote the music. We saw it with his music. I became obsessed with owning this movie. I couldn't find it in VHS or DVD form, only laser disc. Finally I found it in VHS form on ebay. I bought it, but I know it was copied form a cable tv channel. Then my roommate saw the special offer when she bought a DVD released by Fox and knew I would want it. So I bought "A Gentlemen's Agreement" "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and "All About Eve".

This movie is a great classic, I love it!!

Okay - I found some great information on Eureka's new release of Sunrise -

Looks like the video transfer is basically the same. The only real benefit will be for Region 2/PAL people. This video transfer will play back with added resolution in progressive mode - the original Region 2 release presented the movie in interlaced mode - which is lower resolution. I believe the Region 1 NTSC release was already progressive.

No real reason to buy the new release if you're living in the United States - unless you want to get the booklet.

Would you know if this is the edition that was shown on Turner Classic Movies last night? It looked pretty good. Prior to this I'd only seen it as a rather ratty video tape.

i can't wait to get it.

After seeing it this past Sunday night, I have figured out what the ultimate cinematic sin would be: colorizing "Sunrise".

Unfortunately I didn't get to see the TCM version. I imagine it is the same as the dvd release - which honestly looks quite nice and watchable despite the age related defects.

If anyone is trying to find the region 1 dvd, I recommend going to Deep Discount DVD http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemID=FXD008755
Not only do you get Sunrise, but 3 other classics for just $21.96 - with an option for free shipping. The same collection sells for $26.99 at amazon.
