This classic is soon to broadcast on TCM

Occasionally shown on TCM in US. Great landmark. One of Leonard
Maltin's "100 Must See Movies of the 20th Century". Scheduled for 18 Sep 2006. Actually at midnight on the 17th. good luck.

Here are Mr. Maltin's words in his short review (I agree completely):

"Exquisite silent film is just as powerful today as when it was made, telling simple story of farmer who plans to murder his wife, led on by another woman. Triumph of direction, camerawork, art direction, and performances, all hauntingly beautiful. Screenplay by Carl Mayer, from Hermann Suderman's story. Cinematographers Karl Struss and Charles Rosher won Oscars, as did the film for "artistic quality of production." Gaynor also won Best Actress Oscar (shared for her performances in 7th Heaven and Street Angel). Remade in Germany as The Journey to Tilsit. Full title onscreen is Sunrise - A Song of Two Humans."

The only movie of his 100 movie list that I have not seen is Gun Crazy, which I hope to see soon.

Damn! It's on a Sunday night. I can't watch it that late. Maybe I can get a friend to TIVO it.

I saw it on TCM around a year ago i believe. I'm recording it onto a VHS tape this time for sure. :)

I am watching it right now. Interesting imageries. Very good ironic story. Janet Gaynor is great. She is good in the films that I saw of hers.

It was great to watch it again, this time on TCM. I really miss the color tinting, though.

The only time I'd seen it before tonite, it was at a film institute screening, with a live orchestra, and IIRC most of the film had color tinting, bluish, I think.

But still a great film.

Yep, silent films dont get much better than Murnau.
