Am I the only one ?

This is by far one of the best silent movies ever made, and definatly one of the best love stories. I rented this movie from my library and the last two minutes were cut off. I was pissed. Silent movies get no respect whatsoever. I cant explain why classics like this arent on DVD, but the real piece of garbage movies are released on DVD...and then re-released as a "special edition". Underworld: special collectors edition !! Who cares about that. Put Seventh Heaven on DVD.

Hi, Taxidriver474! I just signed up on the IMDB so I came across your posting. To answer your question, no, you're not the only one. I first saw this wonderful, beautiful movie when I was 13 years old (32 years ago, in 1973!!!) and fell in love from the first frame. Is it any wonder that Janet Gaynor won the first Best Actress Oscar? Wow, what a performance!!!!! She made Diane so real that you just want to take this sweet girl in your arms and hold her!!!!! It's too bad they didn't have a Best Supporting Actress catagory yet because Gladys Brockwell would've won hands down. She played the psychotic Nana to the hilt. Off screen she was a gem -- an incredibly intelligent woman that I would've probably hung out with if we lived in the same time period!! I love the whole cast and Frank Borzage is one of my favourite directors of all time. These schmucks today couldn't hold a candle to him! If you send me an e-mail I'll tell you what I really think of these twits :-),;-). One of my new friends at the Golden Silents website forum told me recently that he heard SEVENTH HEAVEN would be released on DVD some time soon, so I hope he's right. I have SUNRISE and love that, too. Check out that sight, tho -- it's great.

Well, I could go on forever about this movie as it's my absolute favourite of all time. Take care now and drop me a line.

Best wishes,
Gina

I am in love with SEVENTH HEAVEN, but I don't know if I can call it a really
fine silent movie. What I do call it is the best love story from the silent
era! I hope that you have seen this on other than the miserable tapes that
prevail on this film. I have seen Fox's 35mm studio print, as well as the Museum of Modern Art's 16mm rental print, and they are both truly lovely prints.

You may be interested to know that the British Film Institute is planning to
release a DVD featuring SEVENTH HEAVEN and STREET ANGEL at sometime around
January 2006. It will, of course, be in the PAL format, but you can easily have
the DVD transferred to our NTSC format, with no loss of picture quality.

It is beyond me how Twentieth Century Fox can release some of the garbage titles which they handle, and pass over this. Of course, you will notice
that Fox has only ever released ONE silent movie, SUNRISE, and that was a big flop. Still, I think they should be pressured by fans to release it in this
country. I e-mail them once a month.

Hi! Just read your posting and wanted to ask -- how can I see the Fox print or the MOMA print? I know on the tapes they've got out there are scenes missing, scenes I remember seeing when I first saw this on tv years ago and it drives me crazy!!! I would love to see this completely restored to it's original (pre-sound score) 12 reels, which had the running time at about 2 hours, 36 minutes!!! I've got to write the BFI, too, maybe they can help!

Hope to hear from you.

Regards,
Gina :-)

well i forgot all about this post. its getting some attention now it seems. as long as you are talking about "miserable" copies of this movie, the one i rented had the ending cut off. this is one of my favorite movies, and i've never seen how it ends. does that make me a bad person ?

i'm glad to hear that its getting released in europe, but i wish it were for sale here on my side of the pond. so much pointless *beep* is released on dvd, it drives me mental. give the classics some attention for goodness sake.

oh, and i'm sure i'll see the ending some day. dont ruin it for me just yet !
