Does anyone else feel this way?

Does anyone else feel like the director of this movie thought that his audience was stupid? Maybe it was a different time back in the silent movie era, but this particular film went a little overboard. For example, the comparison with Napoleon was understandable...but cut to the actor...cut to Napoleon...cut to actor...cut to Napoleon....title card "Napoleon?" cut to actor...cut to Napoleon...

After about 10 minutes of this I was ready to shout out..."OK we get it, you are comparing him to Napoleon! WE GET IT ALREADY ENOUGH IMAGERY! WE ARE NOT STUPID."

Other than that, I really enjoyed this movie.

There's a possibility that many Russians at the time were semi-literate or illiterate. Also, in that case, many people might not have recognized the images of Napoleon.

It is a known fact Lenin and his associates felt after the Bolshevik Revolution that cinema was seen as an effective propaganda tool. As the previous poster stated, most Russians at the time were not well educated. So the simple yet effective style common in Soviet Montage cinema (where October belongs) was necessary to educate the Russian population.

I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.
