Is this the film that......

Please let me know if this is the film that I'm describing below:

I was watching TCM back in July and I saw this Silent Film playing and all I really remember seeing was between a man and woman. I was reading the dialog on the screen but all I really remember was the man and woman were in love or at least the man was really in love with the woman but she might have been married or had another man in her life. I really can't remember exactly. I do remember these two people who were in love or the man was in love with the woman, were in this room for a long time, talking, and there was this orchestral music playing. It was really awesome orchestral music!! This film was a Silent Film but I'm not sure if it was more romance or more drama because I didn't see the whole thing but I'm pretty sure it was Black and White. And if I remember correctly, it was either the man or the woman that was going to be leaving by train or just leaving, yeah I remember there was talk in the dialog about leaving somewhere by train or just leaving the next morning. There were some scenes I saw outdoors also. So maybe it wasn't leaving by train, just leaving!

The problem is, I don't remember what any of the people in the film looked like. But I have a feeling the main actress was Mary P.! They wore nice clothes. I think there was also a dance or a party or ball or something like that in the film also. Doesn't mentioning someone was going to be leaving on a train or leaving at all the next morning help at all? I actually think that it was the man who was going to be leaving the next morning. And the orchestral music wasn't just in the distant background when they were talking in that room, the orchestral music was kind of like front and center, it wasn't just calm music either, it wasn't scary like The Phantom Of The Opera, it was just really exciting orchestral music!

If anyone even has the slightest clue to what it could be, please let me know or list a few possible films that it could be.

If anyone has the July issue of TCM magazine, the movie would be in it as a Silent film and if you could just list all the silent films played on TCM in July, please list them. I tried looking on the TCM website for the July schedule as well but they don't show any month before August!!!

Thank you. in advance!

Sorry this is late...I have the schedule for TCM's Silent Sunday Nights in July, and My Best Girl did play, but the movie you're describing doesn’t really sound like it. But if you remember which week it was, you might be able to figure it out.

The movies were:
The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928) (we know it's not this one)
Daddy Long Legs (1919)
My Best Girl (1927)
Tess of the Storm County (1922)
The Red Kimona (1925)

I have seen movies 1, 3, & 4, and I know that 2, 3, & 4 all star Mary Pickford. In My Best Girl, the son of a store owner works in the store (I think as a stock boy) in order to prove himself. Mary, who also works in the same place (stockroom, I think?) falls in love with him and he with her. Unfortunately, problems arise when she discovers who he is... She is from a poor family, so needless to say, his family doesn't quite approve.

From your description, I'd be willing to bet Tess isn't your movie either, as Mary plays a poor "squatter" who falls in love with the son of a rich landowner. (I know they sound a bit similar...) She never wears "nice" clothes in this one. She basically wears a rag for the entire film.

Even if these aren't your movies, I'd recommend them both. People tend to dismiss silent film as primitive garbage, but there are some real gems out there. So kudos to you for trying to find it...

And that leaves Daddy Long Legs, which if Mary is in your film, I would guess that this would be it, even though I've never seen it. She plays an orphan who falls in love with an older man. He happens to be the rich benefactor who has supported her anonymously. So, in this one, she actually has money...

Mary is a great actress, so good luck. I hope you find your film!
