Love '27 - Beautiful film with marvelous acting and Music!

Movie girl: I have a friend in Europe who sends me Silent films and first saw this one about 5 years ago. From the very beginning I was enthralled by the wonderful Garbo's performance and that of John Gilbert. Phillip DeLacy was great as the little son Anna had to give up in order to go away with Vronsky.

I too was dismayed at the laughter at inappropriate times! When he first sees the beauty of Anna and she has removed her hat and veil, the audience laughs. Well, that was a strange time for levity, as well as at other times when he speaks of his great love for her.

THe music in the background of this film is outstanding. I don't know if it was the original music intended for the background or whether it was added when the film was restored. Whichever way, it conveys the path of alternating feelings of euphoria and tragedy Anna endures once she falls in love with the Count.

A poignant scene of note is when the Count admires Anna comforting her little son and lighting a special lamp for him. The music turns to somber as we see the light diminishing at times. We have a window into her soul and her fears for the future.
