From a technical standpoint, I found this movie difficult to watch, it seemed very amateurish. From a propaganda viewpoint, it was too heavy handed and almost laughable. From a historical standpoint (now with 20/20 hindsight), it was the beginning of a very sad and brutal chapter in human history.

Aren't a lot of propaganda films heavy handed? You have to understand Soviet cinema's primary aim was to educate the illiterate masses with Soviet ideology. Therefore cinema was obviously an effective visual tool to achieve this.

I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.
