'Jesus' 24 years OLDER than 'Mary, the Mother'? HUH???

First of all, this movie features the oldest (over 50 years old) portrayer of Jesus that I've ever seen. To me, he looked and seemed WAY too old for the part. That the actor portraying Jesus was born in 1875 and the actress portraying his mother, the Virgin Mary, was born in 1899, is thoroughly perplexing to understand what someone was thinking when they did that casting! Didn't someone "do the math"??? I kept thinking, watching this movie, that the actor who portrayed Judas might have made a good Jesus.

I love H.B. Warner's portrayal. I think he totally looked the part and has a peace and kindness that radiates through his eyes that the actor playing Judas did not. He was just perfect for the role.

there is no complete certainty that Jesus of Nazareth was 33 years of age when crucified; he may have been well into his 40's.

H.B. Warner also looks to be in fit physical condition and, in fact, is quite unrecognizable from his older self as a character actor in movies until his final screen appearance in 1956. But in this film, Warner doesn't look his actual age.

For Mary, an actress was needed who could convey the pureness and sweetness traits that are typically associated with the Lord's mother. I would have cast Lillian Gish as Mary, but she, too, was much younger than Warner.

On the other hand, from the perspective of believers such as myself, the REAL Jesus Christ pre-existed before his earthly sojourn as a member of the Trinity; thus, in that sense, Jesus was much, much older than his own mother!
