Excellent offbeat silent adventure

'The Gaucho' is a satisfying historical swashbuckler with quasi religious overtones.The first ten minutes of the film deals with a young girl who miraculously survives a great fall and thereupon becomes something of a living saint. Doug does not appear until after this rather lengthy prologue. When Fairbanks does appear, he is nothing short of a human dynamo. The charisma this actor exhuded is amazing and I cannot think of another actor who was this dynamic. The action scenes are beautifully shot; the picture's compositions are sometimes downright breathtaking. I urge you to see this film and partake in the magic that was Douglas Fairbanks Sr.
